Spotted: A Kenyan coffee that carries a family legacy in every sip.
From the fertile western slopes of the Aberdare Range, where red volcanic soil meets cool mountain air, comes a washed lot that tastes like heritage. Established in 1959 by Edward Marigi, now managed by his wife Florence Mukuhi Marigi and their daughter Jessica, Malaki Estate stands as one of the few remaining farms dedicated exclusively to traditional Kenyan varieties. At over 1,900 metres, the estate's SL28 and SL34 trees thrive in conditions that produce exceptional specialty coffee—two harvests a year, careful cherry selection, and a processing method that hasn't changed in decades because it works.
The cup? Blackcurrant, dark chocolate, and a bright citrus finish that lingers like a promise. It's the taste of a family that refuses to compromise—of dairy, macadamia, and avocado alongside coffee, of a diversified farm that knows resilience is the only real legacy.
