Java - Atengsuper, Borbor, Sigararutang - Wst. Java, Bandung, Tilu Mountains, Pangalengan
High in the mountains of Java, coffee flourishes in volcanic soil under the canopy of trees. It thrives in the hands of smallholder coffee farmers who have grown coffee for generations using techniques passed down by their elders. But the place that gave us the nickname of coffee first started under Dutch rule. Coffee was grown on stolen land and tended by indentured farmers who were forced to neglect their own crops to grow tributes paid in coffee. The labor was brutal and death was accepted as a cost of production – and that makes us real f*#@kin’ angry.
